Identity, arguably, is the most puzzled over aspect of existence. In literature from any culture, time or language, I would hazard a guess that the presence of stories which do not question the nature of any particular character is statistically anomalous within the library of human creation. If you, the reader, can think of any exceptions, then the part of me born to play devil’s advocate would be delighted for the insight.
